Dry eye care includes several types of treatments and precautions. There are many treatment options available for people who experience dry eyes all the time. Dry eye syndrome is one of the common diseases treated by eye specialists.  It has been predicted that more than ten millions Americans are suffering from dry eye syndrome. 

The most common symptoms of dry eye syndrome is burning , itching, irritation , redness, blurred vision that improves with blinking , excessive tearing and increasing discomfort after periods of reading , watching TV, or working on a computer.

 

Dry eye care is little different from other eye treatments many people may feel relief after using artificial tears on regular basis. Some of the treatments are watery and alleviate the symptoms temporary. For others preservative free tears are recommended because they are most gentle and have fewer additives that would potentially irritate.  It has been recommended by doctors not to use products that whiten eyes because they do not have sufficient lubricating qualities and they can make problem even more severe.
 
Using eyelid with special inserts is another option for Dry eye care, this treatment works like closing a sink drain with stopper.  This treatment is done by special plug to trap the tears on the eyes and keeping it wet.  This treatment is done on a temporary basis with a dissolvable collagen plug. 

Some changes in the lifestyle may help in dry eye care; this may improves irritation from dry eyes. This phenomenon is same as drinking eight to ten glass of water each day and keeps the body hydrated and clean.  Blinking eyes frequently may help in dry eye care when a person is reading or watching television. It is not recommended by eye physician to rub eyes because it only worsens the irritation. 

There are several methods for dry eye care; these methods are determined by your doctor after measuring the production, evaporation and quality of the tear film.  There are special drops are available in the market which are helpful to diagnosis the presence of the dryness.

Schirmer test is performed in the case of excess tear production and is helpful in treating dry eye care.  In this treatment, tiny tabs are inserted in the lower lids and removed after a few minutes. When the tabs are removed, the wet area is measured in millimeters. This treatment is useful to determine dry areas in the eyes.
